Information-Driven Socialization
1992 - 1998
During this period, information acquisition emerged as the central mechanism of newcomer socialization, tying onboarding to learning processes and proactive information seeking across diverse sources. Researchers emphasized information seeking strategies to build domain knowledge and facilitate adjustment, often using longitudinal designs to track how tactic choices and information channels influence early socialization outcomes. A six-dimension content framework—performance, politics, language, people, goals/values, and history—provided a stable lens for what newcomers learn and how this learning translates into socialization outcomes, while biodata and organizational identification emerged as important predictors of long-term commitment.
